Fresh Seafood, Carefully Sourced
The Market At River Falls procures the freshest seafood in the Washington DC area. We source our seafood very carefully and proudly as we are concerned with your health and safety as well as the sustainability of the supplies coming from the oceans. We buy fish only from those whom we know and most of it can be traced back to the very boat and the Captain who caught it. We have unique relationships with our vendors, some of which have been in place for over 20 years. We work with a few small independent fishermen from Maine to Florida providing us with fish which is literally one day from the water. We also overnight fresh products from The West Coast, Alaska, Norway, Iceland, The United Kingdom, the Mediterranean, Central and South America, and even Japan. We pay extra to have the temperature of the product recorded during every step of its journey, right up to our back door.
As a result, we receive fresh seafood which very few restaurants and markets will ever see. Regardless of where we source the fish, we rigorously inspect it upon arrival and make certain that it is then stored properly on ice. We hand cut all of our fish in small quantities to provide the finest quality fillets. We will be happy to cut your fish to order and fill any special needs.
Our Standards Are Just as High
Regarding shellfish, our standards are just as high. The largest global producers of crabmeat and shrimp are The Philippines, Indonesia, China, Bangladesh and Vietnam, ( not necessarily in order ) and other Far Eastern countries. We simply do not know enough about the farming of the product, the cleanliness of the water, the labor practices, etc., to feel good about sourcing products from this region. While it is more expensive to do so, we make certain that all of our shellfish come from the USA, Canada, or countries to the South which source from the Gulf of Mexico.

Is our seafood expensive? Sure it is. While no one wants to pay too much for anything they buy, we learned long ago that if we wanted to buy cheaper fish there would always be someone willing to sell it to us. We will never compromise your trust by trying to sell that type of product to you. Remember, if we wouldn’t feed it to our grandchildren, we won’t sell it to you!
